About The Project
The film is split into two separate entities. The set will
predominantly be black, white and in shades of grey
although some elements will be in colour if they have a
particular significance. The set will be handmade and as
far as possible we will all non recycable materials. Our
goal is to promote the re-use of certain materials and the
idea of sustainable living. Please read more about this in
the Recycled Set section.
The first part is set in an "underwater" world. The main
character will be a girl who will be body painted white
with jet black hair; the background will also be black. The
girl is trying to chase after a coloured origami bird that
represents emotional freedom while being held down by a
ball and chain attached to her leg. The ball and chain
represents depression which is a result of the girl being
lovesick. Other actions will happen in the piece to create
a more detailed narrative and these will relate to the
underwater aspect.
The second part is set in a "sky" world. The main character
is now a boy who will be body painted black with white hair
to illustrate the difference in emotion between the two
situations (although in many ways the boy and the girl are
really the same person in different circumstances). This
time the background will be white. The boy is again trying
to catch the origami bird but is being pulled upwards by a
kite which represents uncontrollable lust. Again we will
create the impression of a sky-world through other
side-plots in the production.
